On the western edge of Bellingham’s city limits, centrally located to all major amenities, sits the Birchwood community. The title says it all. Known for its big lots which can vary from .20/acre to some just shy of an acre, these larger lots are attracting a growing community of persons wanting to garden, have urban farms (chickens, hobby farms, small orchards, even horses) or just some extra room between their neighbors. Not to mention it is easily recognized from its street names, i.e. Birchwood, Cedarwood, Alderwood, Maplewood,etc.. Some of the lots still have some of these large trees standing. In terms of demographics, the Birchwood population is 5,269 according to the 2010 Census.
Close to Bellingham Technical College, near one of Bellingham’s best trails, Bay to Baker and Little Squalicum,
which leads down to Squalicum Beach, and close to the future Bellingham Youth Sportsfield, Birchwood is a diverse and growing community. Besides larger lots, the homes in this community are also part of the appeal. Many are Craftsman style with all of the character and cottage appeal that those of us love about older homes. The average sale prices range from the low $200′s to mid $200′s.
